The commemorative event, held at the Salão Nobre Hall of the MNEC, brought together senior government representatives, the United Nations Resident Coordinator Ms. Funmi Balogun, members of the diplomatic corps, and development partners. The programme featured cultural performances, special messages from the H.E. President of Republic of Timor-Leste, Dr. José Ramos Horta, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Members of Government, Diplomatic Corps and UN Representatives, and reflections on eight decades of global cooperation. The event also marked the official launch of the UNSDCF 2026–2030, signed by H.E. Minister Bendito dos Santos Freitas and UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Funmi Balogun, and witnessed by H.E. the Acting Prime Minister, Vice-Prime Minister, Minister Coordinator for Social Affairs, and Minister of Rural Development and Community Housing, H.E. Mariano Assanami Sabino.
As Timor-Leste advances its national priorities and prepares for deeper regional and global engagement — including full participation as the 11th Member State of ASEAN — the Government remains steadfast in its belief that a strong and effective multilateral system is essential for peace, sustainable development, and human dignity. The Ministry reiterates Timor-Leste’s unwavering commitment to the principles of cooperation, solidarity, and shared responsibility as we build a better future together.
