𝘿𝙞𝙡𝙞, 11 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙨𝙪 2026 – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) of Timor-Leste today received a courtesy visit from a delegation of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office led by Ms. Libera Cheng. The meeting aimed to explore opportunities for strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Timor-Leste and Hong Kong.

During the meeting, representative of the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. 𝙀𝙡𝙞𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙚 𝙅𝙚𝙨𝙪𝙨 𝙁𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙖, welcomed the delegation and highlighted the Government’s commitment to promoting trade, investment, and private sector development as part of Timor-Leste’s broader economic diversification strategy. The discussion also focused on potential collaboration in areas such as trade facilitation, logistics, investment promotion, and support for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

Officials from MCI emphasized that Hong Kong’s experience as a global hub for trade, finance, and services presents valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange and partnership with Timor-Leste’s emerging economy.

The meeting also noted Timor-Leste’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its integration into the regional and global economy, including engagement with the ASEAN and the WTO. Strengthening partnerships with international economic centerssuch as Hong Kong is expected to contribute positively to these efforts.

Both sides expressed their commitment to continuing dialogue and exploring practical areas of cooperation that can enhance trade relations, promote investment, and support sustainable economic development.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry looks forward to further engagement with partners from Hong Kong to strengthen economic ties and create new opportunities for businesses in both economies.
