His Excellency Francisco da Costa Monteiro, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held a meeting with His Excellency Sergei Tolchenov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Indonesia and Timor-Leste.

Minister Monteiro expressed appreciation for the longstanding relations between Timor-Leste and the Russian Federation and highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation, particularly in the current global context. His Excellency noted the value of strengthening partnerships and exploring opportunities for collaboration across key sectors.

During the meeting, Minister Monteiro presented the opportunities available in Timor-Leste’s oil and gas sector, both onshore and offshore, as well as emerging potential in the minerals sector. His Excellency highlighted ongoing developments in the energy sector, including opportunities related to the Greater Sunrise project, Bayu-Undan 2.0, and other prospective areas, and emphasised Timor-Leste’s commitment to advancing these resources in a structured and strategic manner.

The discussions also touched on the potential for engagement with Russian companies and institutions, including in exploration, development, and technical cooperation, as well as the broader role of international partnerships in supporting Timor-Leste’s energy sector development.

Ambassador Tolchenov welcomed the exchange and highlighted opportunities to deepen cooperation, including through platforms such as the Russian Energy Week, which brings together government representatives, experts, and major energy companies.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their interest in maintaining close communication and exploring avenues for future cooperation in the energy sector.
