Sua Excelência, Vice-Ministro do Comércio e Indústria, Sr. Augusto Júnior Trindade, reuniu-se hoje com a delegação do U.S. Poultry and Egg Export Council e representantes da Embaixada dos Estados Unidos, na sala de encontros do Ministério do Comércio e Indústria (MCI), com o objetivo de reforçar a cooperação bilateral no setor do comércio e investimento.

Na sua intervenção, o Vice-Ministro começou por dar as boas-vindas à delegação, expressando apreço pela parceria contínua entre Timor-Leste e os Estados Unidos, destacando o apoio consistente ao desenvolvimento económico do país, nomeadamente no reforço da capacidade comercial, promoção do setor privado e garantia da segurança alimentar.

O governante sublinhou que Timor-Leste continua empenhado em aprofundar relações comerciais e de investimento, reconhecendo a importância de parcerias com fornecedores internacionais fiáveis para responder à crescente procura por produtos alimentares de qualidade, especialmente no setor avícola.

Durante o encontro, foi também destacado o compromisso do Governo em melhorar o ambiente de negócios, através de reformas que visam aumentar a transparência regulatória, simplificar procedimentos e facilitar o acesso ao mercado. O Vice-Ministro referiu ainda áreas prioritárias de cooperação, incluindo o desenvolvimento da cadeia de frio e logística, fortalecimento das ligações entre o setor privado e promoção de investimentos no processamento alimentar e no comércio.

Adicionalmente, foi enfatizada a importância da capacitação técnica e cooperação em áreas como normas, controlo de qualidade e sistemas regulatórios, essenciais para garantir padrões elevados e competitividade no mercado.

A delegação norte-americana manifestou interesse em explorar novas oportunidades de colaboração, incluindo iniciativas de promoção e fornecimento de produtos de qualidade ao mercado timorense.

O Vice-Ministro concluiu reafirmando que Timor-Leste permanece aberto ao investimento estrangeiro e comprometido com o desenvolvimento de um sistema agroalimentar resiliente e sustentável, onde as importações complementam a produção nacional.

O encontro foi considerado um passo importante para o fortalecimento de uma parceria mutuamente benéfica, com impactos positivos no crescimento económico e no bem-estar da população.

His Excellency, Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Augusto Júnior Trindade, met today with the delegation of the U.S. Poultry and Egg Export Council and representatives of the United States Embassy, in the meeting room of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the trade and investment sector.

In his speech, the Vice Minister began by welcoming the delegation, expressing appreciation for the continued partnership between Timor-Leste and the United States, highlighting the consistent support for the country's economic development, namely in strengthening trade capacity, promoting the private sector and ensuring food security.

The official stressed that Timor-Leste remains committed to deepening trade and investment relations, recognizing the importance of partnerships with reliable international suppliers to meet the growing demand for quality food products, especially in the poultry sector.

During the meeting, the Government's commitment to improving the business environment was also highlighted, through reforms aimed at increasing regulatory transparency, simplifying procedures and facilitating market access. The Vice Minister also mentioned priority areas for cooperation, including the development of the cold chain and logistics, strengthening links between the private sector and promoting investments in food processing and trade.

In addition, the importance of technical capacity building and cooperation in areas such as standards, quality control and regulatory systems, essential to ensure high standards and competitiveness in the market, was emphasized.

The U.S. delegation expressed interest in exploring new opportunities for collaboration, including initiatives to promote and supply quality products to the Timorese market.

The Vice Minister concluded by reaffirming that Timor-Leste remains open to foreign investment and committed to the development of a resilient and sustainable agri-food system, where imports complement national production.

The meeting was considered an important step towards strengthening a mutually beneficial partnership, with positive impacts on economic growth and the well-being of the population.
