O Vice-Primeiro-Ministro e Ministro Coordenador dos Assuntos Sociais, Mariano Assanami Sabino, foi escolhido para liderar a Associação de Alumni da Universidade Brawijaya em Timor-Leste, numa iniciativa que pretende reforçar a ligação entre antigos estudantes e promover a sua contribuição para o desenvolvimento nacional.

A nomeação ocorreu durante um encontro realizado entre representantes da Universidade Brawijaya, da Indonésia, e antigos alunos timorenses que frequentaram aquela instituição de ensino superior.

Segundo os participantes, a reunião teve como principal objetivo consolidar a rede de antigos estudantes, fortalecendo a cooperação entre profissionais que atualmente desempenham funções em diferentes setores da sociedade timorense.

Durante a sessão, os alumni partilharam experiências académicas e percursos profissionais, recordando momentos marcantes vividos durante o período universitário.

Após assumir a liderança da associação, Mariano Assanami Sabino destacou a importância de unir esforços para aumentar o contributo dos antigos alunos para o desenvolvimento de Timor-Leste.

“Precisamos de reforçar a organização entre os alumni para discutir ideias, desenvolver planos e identificar formas concretas de contribuir para o desenvolvimento do país, tendo em conta que muitos ocupam atualmente cargos relevantes nos setores público, privado e em organizações internacionais”, afirmou.

Por sua vez, o Vice-Reitor da Universidade Brawijaya para os Assuntos Estudantis manifestou satisfação pela mobilização dos antigos estudantes timorenses, revelando surpresa pelo número de participantes.

Segundo o responsável universitário, a associação criada em Timor-Leste representa a primeira organização oficial de alumni da Universidade Brawijaya estabelecida no estrangeiro.

No futuro, a universidade e a associação pretendem reforçar a cooperação em áreas como investigação científica, ensino superior, agricultura e outros setores estratégicos, procurando contribuir para o desenvolvimento sustentável de Timor-Leste.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Affairs, Mariano Assanami Sabino, has been appointed to lead the University of Brawijaya Alumni Association in Timor-Leste, in an initiative aimed at strengthening ties among former students and enhancing their contribution to national development.

The appointment took place during a meeting between representatives of the University of Brawijaya, Indonesia, and Timorese graduates who previously studied at the institution.

According to participants, the meeting’s main objective was to consolidate the alumni network, reinforcing cooperation among professionals currently working across different sectors of Timorese society.

During the session, alumni shared academic experiences and professional journeys, recalling significant moments from their university years.

After assuming the leadership role, Mariano Assanami Sabino highlighted the importance of uniting efforts to increase the contribution of former students to Timor-Leste’s development.

“We need to strengthen the organisation among alumni to discuss ideas, develop plans and identify practical ways of contributing to the country’s development, especially considering that many alumni currently hold important positions in the public sector, private sector and international organisations,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Rector of the University of Brawijaya for Student Affairs expressed satisfaction with the engagement of Timorese alumni and revealed surprise at the number of participants involved.

According to the university official, the association established in Timor-Leste represents the first official University of Brawijaya alumni organisation created abroad.

Looking ahead, the university and the alumni association intend to strengthen cooperation in areas such as scientific research, higher education, agriculture and other strategic sectors, with the aim of contributing to the sustainable development of Timor-Leste.
