𝐃Í𝐋𝐈, 𝟏𝟖 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 —The Minister of Commerce and Industry, 𝙃.𝙀. 𝙈𝙧. 𝙉𝙞𝙣𝙤 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙞𝙧𝙖, today held a meeting with the Ambassador of Vietnam to Timor-Leste, 𝙃.𝙀. 𝙈𝙧. 𝙋𝙝𝙖𝙢 𝘽𝙞𝙢 𝘿𝙖𝙢, to further strengthen economic cooperation and institutional partnership between the two nations.

During the meeting, both sides reflected on the recent high-level visit of Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to Vietnam, which was marked as one of the most successful foreign missions by Timor-Leste’s leadership. The Ambassador emphasized that the four-day program allowed the delegation not only to engage in official talks with Vietnam’s top leaders but also to experience the country’s dynamic environment and entrepreneurial spirit — laying a strong foundation for future collaboration.

Ambassador Pham Bim Dam congratulated Timor-Leste on its accession to ASEAN and WTO, noting that these memberships bring both opportunities and responsibilities. He offered Vietnam’s expertise in devising strategies to maximize the benefits of international integration, including trade facilitation, industrial development, and standardization of commitments. The Ambassador proposed practical cooperation through working groups, exchange of experience, and joint initiatives to enhance flows of goods and services between the two countries.

Minister Nino Pereira welcomed the support and highlighted Timor-Leste’s commitment to diversifying its economy, strengthening private sector participation, and learning from Vietnam’s transformation into a regional manufacturing hub. He underlined the importance of entrepreneurship, institutional reform, and sustainable development as key drivers for Timor-Leste’s future growth.

Both parties agreed to prepare concrete projects and documents ahead of the upcoming Joint Government Committee meeting, ensuring that commitments are translated into actionable cooperation. The discussion also touched on government-to-government (G2G) and business-to-business (B2B) initiatives, with emphasis on organizing events and engaging chambers of commerce to promote investment opportunities.

The meeting reaffirmed the sincerity and friendship between Timor-Leste and Vietnam, with both sides expressing readiness to cooperate as partners in building a diversified, resilient, and forward-looking economy.
