During the meeting, Minister Bendito conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of H.E. President Dr. José Ramos-Horta and H.E. Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to His Majesty. The discussion reaffirmed the strong foundation of friendship, mutual respect, and brotherhood that continues to guide the relations between Timor-Leste and Brunei Darussalam.

Minister Bendito expressed his deep appreciation for Brunei Darussalam’s steadfast support toward Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN, and underlined that the most important work begins after accession, as Timor-Leste embarks on its journey of ASEAN post-accession integration.

Minister Bendito highlighted that, as he has discussed with Honourable Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Timor-Leste looks forward to working closely with Brunei to identify specific areas of cooperation, leveraging Brunei’s strengths and experience to support Timor-Leste’s institutional strengthening and human resource development, enabling the country to actively participate and meaningfully contribute within ASEAN.

His Majesty congratulated Timor-Leste for becoming the 11th full member of ASEAN at the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, and reaffirmed Brunei Darussalam’s continued support for Timor-Leste’s integration into the ASEAN family. His Majesty also highlighted the friendly and brotherly relations between both countries and conveyed his best wishes to H.E. President Dr. José Ramos-Horta and H.E. Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepen bilateral relations and to explore practical cooperation that promotes regional peace, prosperity, and solidarity, in line with the ASEAN Vision 2025–2045.
